Transportation options in Tanjong Pagar
The central location of Tanjong Pagar means that it’s well-connected to all major transport networks in Singapore.
Currently there are two MRT stations, namely Tanjong Pagar (EW15) on the East-West Line and Telok Ayer (DT18) on the Downtown Line. Connectivity will be improved when the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) is up and running. Maxwell MRT station (TE18) on the TEL will be in Tanjong Pagar.
Motorists travelling from here to other parts of the island will also find their journey a breeze because it’s is well-linked to the existing expressway network via Singapore’s newest expressway, the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE).
MRT stations
Residents and workers can get to any part of the island easily via the existing MRT network.
Tanjong Pagar MRT station on the East-West Line is only one stop away from Raffles Place MRT station (EW 14/NS26) where passengers can easily change trains to get onto the North-South Line.
Tanjong Pagar MRT station is also one stop away from Outram Park MRT station (EW16/NE3/TE17), which is an interchange where passengers can get onto the East-West Line, North-East Line and the upcoming TEL.
Additionally, passengers can hop onto a train at Telok Ayer MRT station and travel along the Downtown Line all the way to Bukit Panjang MRT station (DT1/BP6), but not before passing through Botanic Gardens (DT9/CC19) and Sixth Avenue (DT7).
Connectivity for Tanjong Pagar will be further enhanced when the TEL gradually starts operating from 2019. Once the TEL is operational, residents will be able to get to Orchard Road without having to change trains at Raffles Place MRT station. Those who work in Tanjong Pagar but live in the northern region of Singapore will also appreciate the shorter daily commute.
Bus terminal at Shenton Way
There is no bus interchange in Tanjong Pagar. The nearest one will be Shenton Way Bus Terminal. However, the numerous bus services that go to the bus terminal pass through Tanjong Pagar.
Motorists in Tanjong Pagar are well served by a network of expressways. Motorists can get on the Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) and connect with the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) to get to the western region of Singapore.
They can also link up with the East Coast Parkway (ECP) to get to the eastern part of the island or use the Central Expressway (CTE) to get to the northern part of Singapore.
Tanjong Pagar is also well served by the existing road network. Some of the major roads that run through Tanjong Pagar include Anson Road, Robinson Road, Cecil Street, Maxwell Road and Telok Ayer Street.

Workers living near the North-South MRT line will agree that it is more difficult to get to Tanjong Pagar compared to Raffles Place because of the need to change trains. However, there is no denying that travelling to Tanjong Pagar is definitely not difficult.
Tanjong Pagar is only one MRT stop from two major interchanges, namely the Raffles Place and Outram MRT stations. Tanjong Pagar’s connectivity, especially to the northern part of Singapore, will only be further enhanced when the Thomson-East Coast Line starts operating.
In addition, Tanjong Pagar is well-linked to the existing expressway network and has numerous multi-lane roads running through it. The road network serving Tanjong Pagar can be expected to see an upgrade when development of the Greater Southern Waterfront starts. The government will have to improve the current transport infrastructure to support the anticipated increase in residents and workers in the area.
