The humble beginnings of Bukit Panjang that means “long hill”, can be dated back to the 1990s as a small town formerly known as Zheng Hua. The Bukit Timah Hill is located in the area and is Singapore’s very first nature reserve that conserves many different species of plants, monkeys and snakes. Several HDB estates, condominiums and land properties can be found within Bukit Panjang. Popular condominiums include The Linear, Dairy Farm Estate and Espa.
Bukit Batok, on the other hand, was believed to have derived its name from the word “Batok” which translates “skull top” in Malay which was resembled by the portray of the hills. Not known to many, Bukit Batok houses the former Ford factory where the British surrendered to the Japanese, marking the beginnings of the Second World War in Singapore. Today, Bukit Batok is a vibrant residential area accompanied by a selection of leisure places including the West Mall, Bukit Batok Swimming Complex and the Bukit Batok Country Club. Several parks have also been developed around the region to promote a healthy lifestyle for nearby residents. The area is also highly accessible as it is linked to the Pan-Island Expressway, Toh Tuck Road, Upper Bukit Timah and the Bukit Batok Roads.
