Mark Vaile joins Stamford Land

29 Dec 2009

Mark Vaile, the transport minister and ex-deputy prime minister of Australian, was appointed as a new independent director by the locally listed Stamford Land Corporation (SLC).

Yesterday, Mr Vaile, who is living in Sydney, entered the board of Singapore company. Amongst many other directorships, the 52 year-old Mr. Vaile also has the position on Virgin Blue’s board. He was originally in the property industry before he moved into politics in 1993.

“The group has been heavily invested in Australia and New Zealand for the past 15 years through the ownership and management of hotels. We are also involved in the development of commercial property and luxury apartments”, C K Ow, the SLC chairman, said.

“We are delighted to have Mr Vaile on our board and believe that given his wealth of experience in Australian property prior to joining the federal government, he will be able to contribute positively to the group’s businesses”.

Mr Vaile was originally a trade minister, and he became a transport minister, before becoming the deputy prime minister of Australia. Being the transport minister, he frequently saw himself in the midst of the fight between Qantas and Singapore Airlines, in which the Singapore Airlines attempted to get permission to operate the route of the trans-Pacific from Australia to the US, which was strongly opposed by the Australian carrier.
