China had completed around 4.08 billion sq m of energy-efficient buildings by the end of last year, according to information from a construction industry forum held in Fuzhou City, China.
According to the Building Energy Conservation and Science and Technology Department under China’s Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the country has gained great achievements in making green buildings since it implemented mandatory standards for constructing energy-efficient new buildings in early-2006.
It added that around 4.08 billion sq m of green buildings are expected to reduce energy consumption by about 36 million metric tonnes of standard coal and cut 93.6 million tones of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
So far, China has completed statistics on energy consumption of about 29,359 large public and government buildings. By the end of last year, the country had reached 1.18 billion sq m of solar thermal buildings.
