Additional courses for building specialists

The boom in the construction industry over the past few years has resulted in a shortage of qualified specialists and surveyors.

The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) revealed that Singapore Institute of Surveyors and Valuers (SISV) and the BCA Academy (BCAA) will implement several initiatives to strengthen and build the pool of property professionals in the industry, including land surveyors, quantity surveyors, valuers and property managers.

SISV and BCAA will both introduce additional academic programmes like diploma, specialist diploma and degree courses to train new professionals and upgrade their skills.

BCAA, along with SISV will initiate additional dialogue sessions with companies in the industry to facilitate discussion on developing such capabilities.

To promote the building profession, SISV and BCA signed a memorandum of understanding to promote educational programmes, share resources and jointly make and implement new services and products to improve the local building industry.

“I’m confident that this new collaboration will help elevate the occupational profile in the built environment. BCA looks forward to working with SISV to develop more programmes to train personnel at the technical and professional level to meet the needs of the industry,” said John Keung, CEO of BCA.
