Shopping malls in Singapore benefited from the World Cup fever. Several retailers in malls screening live matches said they saw a growth in business by almost 20 percent since the tournament started.
For example, crowds at 313@Somerset have increased by almost 10 percent due to several ongoing FIFA promotions and the screenings of games.
Retailers at Velocity also said they have benefited from those who patronise their shops during match intervals.
However, some restaurants at 313@Somerset claimed that they have not benefited as much.
"People come and they might order a drink. They’ll make a small food order, but literally they will sit for maybe three or four hours, depending on how many games there are and they won’t necessarily order again. So the turnover’s slower," said Jeremy Reynolds, director of Trattoria Restaurant.
