Quality housing still exists, says DPM Teo

Despite the rising population in Singapore, people can still get quality and affordable housing, according to Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean.
“Even as our city becomes more populated, we can still, with good design and planning, build facilities for our residents,” he said in his speech at the opening of the 1.2km Punggol Point Walk.
“We opened Punggol Waterway just a month ago and built a park around Punggol to illustrate that we can still find the space for good-quality housing for Singaporeans.”
Located next to Punggol Jetty, the walkway features a 0.6 ha park comprising a viewing deck, events plaza, children’s playground and two lily ponds.
In addition, a 2.5 km Nature Walk is scheduled to open early next year in Punggol. The project will feature nature trails and fishing platforms.
In view of the growing population in Sengkang and Punggol, MP for Punggol East SMC, Michael Palmer, noted that the walkway provides residents with a chance to “get out there” and “have some fresh air”, without feeling the effects of the growing population and urbanisation.
“And that’s important, because people need space,” he said.
