The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) will be giving the BCA Green and Gracious Builder Awards to 10 exceptional property developers during the BCA Awards ceremony on 19 May.
Of these, three developers — Gammon Pte Ltd, Tiong Seng Contractors (Pte) Ltd and Woh Hup Pte Ltd — which originally clinched the “Excellent” tier in 2009, have been promoted to the highest category, known as the “Star” award.
Four other developers have acquired the “Excellent” award, while another three have obtained the “Merit” award.
Unison Construction, an “Excellent” category winner, is the only small and medium enterprise (SME) to bag the award this year.
The company implemented the demolition protocol to make utmost use of the recycling and reusing of demolition materials and utilised noise barriers at its construction areas to lessen noise pollution. It also used aluminium formwork, which is more environmentally-friendly and efficient to set up, compared to timber formwork.
Launched in 2009, the Green and Gracious Builder Award aims to recognise progressive developers who adopt environmentally-friendly practices and utilise methods to reduce disturbance to people living near construction sites.
Some common practises include the use of construction methods that generate less vibration and noise and utilising innovative environmental control practices.
The BCA award also aims to raise developers’ environmental professionalism and consciousness. Currently, BCA has conferred 28 awards.
