UOL Group has named globally recognised architect Richard Rogers of Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners (RSHP) to design its upcoming residential project in Changfeng, Shanghai.
Mr. Rogers, a 2007 Pritzker Architect Prize Laureate, founded the RSHP and is well-known for his clear design focus and insightful understanding of how people and cities interact. Among his key projects are the Lloyd’s of London, Pompidou Centre in Paris, One Hyde Park, Terminal 4 of Barajas Airport in Madrid and the Millennium Dome in London.
“Working with Rogers and his team on our project in Shanghai has been very enriching in our commitment towards product innovation and differentiation,” said Liam Wee Sin, President (Property) of UOL.
“We share (the) strong aspects of the human dimension in the firm’s philosophy and approach to creating good design and quality spaces. We believe that the Changfeng project, when completed, will capture such essence and set a new benchmark.”
Jointly developed by UOL, SingLand and Kheng Leong, the Changfeng project is situated on a 40,000 sq m plot, some 10 kilometres west of the Shanghai city hub. It will feature a series of towers arranged along two sides of the site. Internally, a series of exclusive, low-rise townhouse blocks will sit amid lush landscaped gardens.
The residential project will comprise about 430 luxury residential units, a kindergarten, leisure amenities and an 8,000 sq m retail complex.
The development is close to the Lines 2 and 13 metro stations, offering quick access to the Shanghai city centre and the Hongqiao Transportation Hub, which incorporates China’s growing rail network and the Hongqiao International Airport.
The residential project is scheduled to launch in the second half of 2013, subject to regulatory approvals upon its completion.
“Changfeng is our first built project in Shanghai and will be one of the key residential developments in China,” said Richard Rogers.
“It offers high-rise apartments arranged around a central green space, within which low-rise ‘townhouse’ blocks are located within landscaped gardens — an innovative concept for the China luxury housing market.”
“Our project will maximise views for residents and create opportunities for those living in the development to meet and interact. We are also delighted to be working with UOL, a company with an exceptional track record of delivering high quality residential projects in Southeast Asia, on such a unique offering for the China market.”
