The controversial Design, Build and Sell Scheme (DBSS) flats at Centrale 8 in Tampines were two times over-subscribed by the deadline on 21 June, according to a Straits Times report.
Despite widespread criticism over the S$880,000 price tag, the project managed to attract 1,431 applicants.
Some market analysts were surprised by this record, though they believe the figure does not indicate how well the project will actually sell.
Developed by Sim Lian Group, Centrale 8 made the headlines last week with its record asking price, triggering a public outcry that the price was comparable to that of executive condominium (EC) units.
The developer had explained that the prices were only “indicative” and released a new “confirmed price range” for the flat types, which revealed a S$102,000 price decrease from S$778,000 for the top-end units.
The application results placed Centrale 8 on the same level as other recent DBSS launches. Adora Green in Yishun had thrice as many buyers as there were flats. The Peak in Toa Payoh attracted around 2,900 applications for 1,203 units in 2009, while Natura Loft in Bishan drew 600 applications for 480 flats in 2008.
