Netizens applaud suspension of DBSS land sales

6 Jul 2011

Local netizens applauded National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan’s recent suspension of future land sales for the Design, Build and Sell Scheme (DBSS), according to a Yahoo! Singapore report.

While some called for the scrapping of the DBSS and Executive Condominium (EC) programmes, others welcomed Minister Khaw’s pro-active approach and suggested a “back to basics” move for the Housing Development Board (HDB).

“(The) HDB should take control of the public housing. Please go back to basic and not let private developer to take advantage of the scheme and profiteering from it,” Yahoo! Fit to Post user Dio commented.

“Minister Khaw had been decisive in suspending DBSS land sales and with his sincerity in making public housing affordable to most Singaporeans. I hope he can do a much better job than the previous Minister,” another user commented.

The comments followed Minister Khaw’s announcement that future DBSS land sales had been suspended, pending review.

However, Minister Khaw said that some DBSS land sold last year, including the Centrale 8 site, will continue with their launches, noting that old tenders are beyond his control.

According to Yahoo! Singapore, the Ministry for National Development (MND) is reviewing the scheme as part of its move to review Singapore’s housing policy.
