World famous architect to design Bishan condo

27 Jul 2011

CapitaLand Residential Singapore has appointed renowned international architect Moshe Safdie as the lead designer of its Bishan Central condominium project.

The new residential development will feature 540 units and is a five-minute walk from the Junction 8 shopping mall and Bishan transportation hub.

Moshe Safdie has established a distinctive style which provides the majority of the condominiums with private garden spaces. The residential development will be housed in two 38-storey towers, connected by a trio of “sky garden” bridges, which will serve as common leisure and garden spaces.

“The concept moves past the traditional approach of deploying individual towers to create a three-dimensional matrix of public gardens and private terraces as well as to frame open views to the city,” said Moshe Safdie.

“This affords lush expanses of greenery — both horizontally and vertically, and achieves optimal orientation relative to the sun and the prevailing winds, allowing the units to be naturally ventilated.”

Wong Heang Fine, Chief Executive of CapitaLand Residential Singapore, said, “Bishan Central is one of Singapore’s most popular residential estates. The area enjoys a mature network of amenities, scenic surroundings and proximity to a number of good schools.”

The 129,137 sq ft site has an estimated gross floor area (GFA) of around 632,770 sq ft. It will be jointly developed by CapitaLand and Mitsubishi Estate Asia Pte Ltd (MEA), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Estate Co Ltd (MEC).

As the lead development manager of Bishan Central, CapitaLand will oversee sales and marketing, product design and development and project management.
