Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has urged Singaporeans to monitor world developments so they can respond quickly when problems arise.
He sighted the current crisis in Europe, America and Japan and warned that the country could be affected directly by these global issues.
“We’ve got to watch what is happening around us, keep an eye on the horizon and steer a course forward which will keep Singapore competitive for the long term,” he said yesterday at a National Day Carnival in Teck Ghee.
“We are too small to afford impasse and gridlock. We have to work together,” he said, emphasising the need to get the right blend of politics and economics.
He cited Robert Zoelick, President of the World Bank, who cautioned that global economies have entered “a new danger zone”.
