Commuters from northeast Singapore will now enjoy enhanced connectivity and convenient transfers through a brand new, fully air-conditioned bus interchange to open at Serangoon Central.
The new S$18.8 million interchange will open on 3 September 2011 and is located at Basement Two of NEX Mall. It will feature a 7,000 sq m facility linked to the Circle Line and North East Line (NEL) Serangoon MRT stations.
An existing open-air interchange located minutes away has been replaced by this Integrated Transport Hub, which took the Land Transport Authority (LTA) approximately two years to build.
“In terms of walking time, previously from the current bus interchange to the MRT station, it takes commuters about 3.5 to 4.5 minutes to walk from the interchange to the MRT station,” said Chan Kwok Cheong, Transportation Promotion and Services Director at LTA.
“With the opening of this bus interchange, the walking time will be shortened to about two to 2.5 minutes.”
The LTA plans to build integrated transport hubs in Bedok, Bukit Panjang, Clementi, Hougang Central, Joo Koon, Jurong East, Marina South and Yishun.
