Singapore-based developer City Developments Limited (CDL) is leading the way in sustainable property development, with its newly-launched 240-room W Singapore – Sentosa Cove (pictured) considered the most eco-friendly hotel in the country.
Approximately 3.5 percent of the construction cost was allocated to green features such as active and passive design elements for energy- and water-efficiency. The hotel is expected to achieve energy savings of over 3,300,000 kWh or around S$930,000 a year.
Aside from W Singapore – Sentosa Cove, three other developments by CDL in the vicinity have also been conferred Green Mark Platinum Awards by the Building and Construction Authority – The Residences at W Singapore Sentosa Cove, The Oceanfront @ Sentosa Cove and Quayside Isle.
The developer now has 62 Green Mark developments, including 21 Green Mark Platinum projects, the highest in the industry.
“CDL continues to advocate that developers can conserve as we construct. W Singapore – Sentosa Cove is yet another exemplar of CDL’s long-standing commitment to sustainable development,” said Managing Director Kwek Leng Joo.
“We estimate that our 37 Green Mark certified buildings between 2008 and 2011 account for an estimated saving of S$19.7 million in electricity annually,” he added.
