Gardens by the Bay set for June unveiling

5 Apr 2012

Gardens by the Bay (pictured) will make its long-awaited debut on 29 June, with the opening of Phase One which includes the 54-ha Bay South Garden and two cooled conservatories.

The development comprises three waterfront gardens that are expected to be fully open by 2015. It includes the Bay Central and Bay East gardens, which comprises 101-ha of reclaimed land.

Over at Bay South Garden, there will be a huge two-ha outdoor event area that can fully accommodate 30,000 people.

Darren Oh, Assistant Director of Business at Gardens by the Bay, said the project is by far the most expensive government-funded attraction in the past 10 years, with the total cost reaching S$1 billion.

As an additional attraction to Marina Bay, the complex will be equipped with educational and recreational facilities. Major features will include the conservatories and 18 ‘Supertrees’, described as concrete-and-metal structures that look like trees. Other attractions at Bay South are the Dragonfly Lake, Kingfisher Lake and Heritage Gardens.

There will also be 13 establishments catering to meals and refreshments, including the Pollen restaurant by Michelin-starred chef Jason Atherton and a food hall operated by the Select Group.

The attraction will offer free entry but admission fees apply to conservatories, the Cloud Forest, Flower Dome and the 128m aerial walkway through the Supertree Grove.
