URA announces Rail Corridor Partnership

By Romesh Navaratnarajah:

In a bid to further explore and promote community activities within the Rail Corridor (pictured), the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has established the Rail Corridor Partnership.

It is an expansion of the Rail Corridor Consultation Group, which was formed to help the government plan for future developments in the area. In line with the Rail Corridor’s re-opening on 9 January 2012, the Partnership will work to promote community use of space on the entire island.

To further boost public-people sector collaborations, various agencies will take part in the Partnership, including the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Community Development, People’s Association and Singapore Sports Council.

“I am very encouraged that many groups and individuals are taking a keen interest in the Rail Corridor and are actively contributing their ideas and suggestions on the development and uses of the Rail Corridor,” said President Tony Tan, during his visit to the ‘Journey of Possibilities’ exhibition at the URA Centre.

Tan Chuan-Jin, Minister of State for National Development, will head the Partnership.

“The expanded role of the Rail Corridor Partnership will see a stronger collaboration between public sector agencies, interest groups, and individuals to promote and support suitable activities and events along the Rail Corridor. I hope that our engagement will continue to be constructive and fruitful going forward,” he noted.

The URA and partner agencies will work together on possible community uses as well as events and infrastructural requirements for the Rail Corridor.
