22 stations for Thomson MRT Line by 2021

By Romesh Navaratnarajah:

In a bid to provide greater connectivity to residents, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has unveiled plans for the Thomson Line (TSL) project. Fully underground, the 30-km long TSL (pictured) will link the North-South corridor with the city centre and Marina Bay.

The TSL will feature a total of 22 stations, including six interchange stations running from Woodlands to Marina Bay. The project is expected to provide commuters with a shorter waiting time to their destinations, either directly or by making transfers at the interchanges.

For improved accessibility to other areas, the TSL will connect to all existing lines as well as the future Downtown Line (DTL) through the interchange stations.

As part of building works, the government is expected to acquire four full lots, including two landed properties along Stevens Road and Robin Close as well as a post office along Upper Thomson Road. Construction works will also affect Pearls Centre as a tunnel will be built under part of the building.

Meanwhile, the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) will send acquisition notices to landowners whose properties will be affected by the TSL.

The project is slated to be completed in three stages, ending in 2019, 2020 and 2021 accordingly. Once fully operational, the TSL stations will serve up to 400,000 commuters daily.
