A proposed Build-to-Order (BTO) project in Ang Mo Kio St 52 has irked nearby residents of the Park Central Design, Build and Sell Scheme (DBSS) project (pictured), who are worried that it would be noisy and dusty and worsen overcrowding in the area.
It has been less than a year since residents received their units which is located just 50 metres away from the site of the planned 710-unit BTO project.
It has prompted disappointed residents to air their grievances on the Facebook page of Ang Hin Kee, their Member of Parliament.
A netizen called Siew Ern argued that Ang Mo Kio is “already overcrowded”, and highlighted concerns like the availability of amenities, especially the transport system.
James Lim, another netizen, wrote: “The land is fully surrounded by residents and a primary school. How would HDB ensure the cleanliness and safety of the children and residents in the area during construction levelling and piling?”
In the meantime, Alex Wong, a 37-year old Park Central resident, revealed that a committee will be formed to “try to stop” the development.
He said that if the BTO project is built now, they would have no other choice but to put up with it.
Wong added that if the project was built five years later, “after the Minimum Occupation Period (MOP), then residents would have a choice to move”.
Meanwhile, Mr Ang said that all “issues raised are addressed adequately and attended to”.
“I empathise with the residents as they have just moved into the estate not long ago and, after all the moving in, renovation and settling (of) teething problems … there’s construction again,” he added.
However, some residents have chosen to accept the government’s plan.
43-year old Mr Aruumugam said: “We will have to live with it as it satisfies a need and the government is doing it for the people.”
