London properties continued to sell well in Singapore last weekend, with the number of individual developments showcasing their investment opportunities during January hitting double digits.
Perennial Singapore exhibitor Berkeley Homes attracted strong interest for its prestigious One Tower Bridge development.
Piers Clanford (pictured), Managing Director of Berkeley Homes, told PropertyGuru: “We’ve had an excellent response and sales well into double figures. About half of our buyers are international and the interest from Singapore remains very strong.”
Clanford added that his company will be opening an office in Singapore next month to take care of the large number of local buyers.
He also noted that two Indonesians had travelled to Singapore specifically to buy property at last weekend’s exhibition.
Another developer seeing significant interest was Taylor Wimpey. The company was exhibiting its Canary Skyline development at Greenwich Millennium Village.
Trish Henderson, Sales and Marketing Director for the developer, told PropertyGuru: “Singaporean property buyers are very discerning and property savvy.”
She added that her company will be bringing more projects to Southeast Asia later this year.
“The recent increase of the stamp duty in Singapore was very good news for UK developers,” she said, alluding to the increase in overseas property investments since the latest measures were introduced on January 11.
Kings Gate, a development in SW1 by Land Securities, was also attracting interest last weekend at an exhibition run jointly by local agencies SQFT Global Properties and Savills.
Paloma Lam, Sales Director for SQFT, told PropertyGuru: “We’re certainly seeing more people looking overseas, especially those who want to leverage and are looking for a trophy property.”
London property investments are a “no brainer” according to Lam, due to scarcity of land and a lack of supply in the UK capital.
