Khaw gives update on infrastructure development

13 Nov 2013

National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan revealed that the government is on track to deliver 13,600 new flats this year, with around 200,000 new units to be ready by 2016, or equal to four Ang Mo Kio towns.

This was in response to MP Christopher de Souza’s parliamentary query on whether public infrastructure can keep up with Singapore’s growth as a regional hub.

As for aviation, Mr Khaw revealed that Project Jewel and Terminal 4 are set to be operational by 2018.

For transport, the Eastern Region Line and Thomson Line will be completed in stages within the next 10 years, while the Downtown Line will be opened in stages in the next few years.

Major road networks such as the North-South Expressway (NSE) and Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) are also progressing as planned.

Better healthcare infrastructure is underway as well, noted Mr Khaw.

New hospitals like Jurong Community Hospital and Ng Teng Fong General Hospital are expected to be completed by 2015, and hospital beds are set to increase 30 percent by 2020.

Moreover, 17 new and replacement nursing homes will come onstream by 2016 catering to the growing needs for eldercare.
