New plans for Woodlands unveiled

National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan yesterday unveiled the government’s initial plans for the upcoming Woodlands Regional Centre, which forms part of the new North Coast Innovation Corridor under the Land Use Plan.

Stretching from the north coast fronting the Straits of Johor to Woodlands Central, it will anchor the development of the corridor.

Poised to become a vital commercial cluster in the north, the area will provide more options for businesses outside the city centre. It will bring with it jobs and amenities that will be well-connected to the Thomson MRT Line that is set to open in 2019.

“Now that the stations, location and alignment of the new Thomson MRT Line have been finalised, Woodlands Regional Centre is expected to be further developed in the next few years, particularly the land around Woodlands MRT interchange station,” said the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA).

The regional centre will comprise two precincts built on some 100ha – Woodlands North Coast that will become a unique waterfront and leisure destination and Woodlands Central – a pedestrian-friendly retail hub.

There will be easy accessibility via the existing North South MRT Line and two new MRT stations on the Thomson Line.
