Agents targeted by email scammers

Real estate agents in Thailand are the latest target of email scammers seeking to defraud them of money.

The suspicious emails appear to come from someone seeking friendship and assistance to buy a property and relocate.

Enquiries made by PropertyGuru revealed the emails originate from Nigeria and can be traced to sources known to be responsible for internet scams.

Ron Condon, a computer security expert and Senior Analyst with Google Intelligence, told PropertyGuru: “The best approach when receiving any kind of spam or unsolicited mail is to delete it immediately. Do not be tempted to respond, even if it’s just to tell them to go to hell. If you respond, you confirm that yours is a valid email address.”

He added that if the recipient does respond, the person sending the original message can then sell the email address to other spammers, with the likely result of more unwanted emails.
