World landmarks will go dark to honour earth hour

Major landmarks and iconic buildings in over 150 countries and territories around the world will turn off their lights for Earth Hour 2013. 

Organised by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the event will take place this Saturday (23 March) at 8:30pm. 

This year’s activity is expected to be the largest with countries like Rwanda, Suriname, Tunisia and Palestine joining the global effort for the first time.
   
Some of the landmarks that are going dark include:

1. Marina Bay Sands (Singapore)
2. Sydney Opera House (Sydney)
3. Eiffel Tower (Paris)
4. Gateway of India (Mumbai)
5. Empire State Building (New York)
6. Burj Khalifa (Dubai)
7. Big Ben (London)
8. Las Vegas Strip (Las Vegas)
9. Statue of David (Florence)
10.Table Mountain (Cape Town)

Meanwhile, PropertyGuru, Asia’s leading property portal, will also be switching off its lights in line with efforts to reduce energy consumption.
