Singaporeans who are already homeowners must also be considered when changes to housing policies are made, said Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman (pictured), Senior Parliamentary Secretary for National Development.
Speaking at a recent dialogue session on housing, Dr Maliki said: “We can’t view property void of the reality of hundreds of thousands of Singaporeans owning their own home.”
“How we manage the property market will have an impact on current homeowners too, and we should not forget that.”
He added that prices of new Build-to-Order (BTO) flats affect those of resale units in the same area.
“Whatever we do with the pricing of new flats — the BTO flats — will have impact somewhat later on. We have to be mindful what it is that we have promised Singaporeans when we talk about homeownership.”
