More than 2,500 Tampines residents took part in a ground-breaking ceremony over the weekend and witnessed development plans and a scale model of Singapore’s largest integrated town hub to be built on a site the size of seven football fields, reported The Straits Times.
Tampines Town Hub (pictured) will cover 120,000 sq m on the existing site of Tampines Stadium and Sports Hall. Touted as “a place of many places”, the development will comprise a regional library, sports facilities and a community club.
Education Minister Heng Swee Keat, together with Mah Bow Tan, Baey Yam Keng and Irene Ng – advisers to Tampines Grassroots Organisations – were also present at the event.
“The design of the town hub incorporates many of these ideas. So, it’s one of those where it’s a bottom-up process and the foundation of the design is really the ideas of the residents,” noted Mr Heng.
“This is a very resident-centric town hub and I’m very happy that the architects made many changes as a result of the feedback from residents.”
