Singapore-based SilverNeedle Hospitality and Sri Lankan conglomerate ABANS Group have appointed award-winning architect Aedas to design Colombo City Centre.

The new mixed-use development will comprise a lifestyle mall, high-rise condominium and 200-room hotel, and is expected to be completed in 2016.

Iqbal Jumabhoy, Managing Director and Group CEO of SilverNeedle Hospitality, said: “As this is our first joint venture development in Asia, it was crucial that we selected a high-calibre architect who understood our desire for creating an inviting and engaging iconic landmark that meets the professional and leisure accommodation needs of the business traveller and enhances the Colombo lifestyle. Aedas’ ethos is consistent with this vision.”

Responding, Aban Pestonjee, Chairperson of ABANS Group, added: “We are delighted with Aedas as the choice of architect for the project. Work is underway and we look forward to building a development that enhances Colombo’s cityscape, offering a new and unique experience for Sri Lankans.”

Aedas’ other global projects include the Express Rail Link West Kowloon Terminus, Hong Kong and the North Star Mixed Used Development in Beijing.

“Our creative excellence track record in delivering world class mixed-use developments were key to win this project,” Aedas’ Principal, Simon Griffiths said.
