The Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) is reportedly reviewing the current Real Estate Salesperson (RES) examination, but details on the revision and its implementation are yet to be finalised.
Speaking to PropertyGuru, Eunice Lim, Executive Director of Real Centre Network, said the changes were still “not confirmed” and CEA has not released an official statement on the issue.
The last RES exam in May had a “change in format of the exam question. The new revision would be more of a content review of the syllabus to make it more current to latest events in the property market”, Lim explained.
Responding, Cheryl Lim, Deputy Director (Policy & Planning) at the CEA, said an overall review of the current examination syllabus “is timely and necessary”.
The syllabus was developed around two years ago during the time of the Common Examination for House Agents (CEHA) Board.
“The objectives of this round of review are to enhance the syllabus with more details, and keep it up-to-date and in line with existing policies/regulations and industry practices. However, the coverage of the examination remains largely the same. The review is targeted to complete later this year,” she said.
The RES exam takes place every two months and is one of the requirements for all new entrants who wish to register as salespersons with CEA. The exam ensures that all new entrants have “adequate professional knowledge and a good understanding of estate agency work and relevant rules and procedures pertaining to property transactions”, said CEA’s Lim.
