The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) has received strong interest from 1,200 Singaporeans expressing interest in the Crane Apprenticeship Programme (CAP), according to a recent blog post by National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan.
Due to overwhelming response, registration for the CAP is now closed for this year, with the next application starting in January 2014.
The blog post stated that over 50 local companies “have registered their interest to participate in the CAP”, offering around 100 job vacancies for all three types of crane operation – mobile, tower and crawler cranes.
For instance, Kenneth Loo, Executive Director of Straits Construction Singapore, is actively recruiting new local crane operators in addition to the 28 local full-time crane operators he employs.
Moreover, the post noted that BCA is “stepping up more training classes” at the BCA Academy, which uses the latest technology like the crane simulator to ensure that crane operators receive the best training.
BCA is also in talks with industry players so that there will be more training providers who can set up additional training facilities, the post added.
