The People’s Association (PA) has launched the One Connect scheme for residents of private estates within Hougang SMC and Aljunied GRC – the first time such an initiative has been extended to opposition-held wards.
It will allow 40,000 such residents in Hougang and Aljunied to contact a single telephone number and e-mail address to report public maintenance issues such as sidewalk cleanliness or parking congestion.
Unlike HDB estates, residents of private housing estates do not have town councils led by MPs who address issues in their areas.
First started in Ang Mo Kio GRC, the scheme was launched to help residents easily contact various government agencies regarding their concerns. Since July 2012, the scheme has been expanded to 12 GRCs. There are also plans to implement it in the three remaining GRCs of Tampines, Tanjong Pagar and Pasir Ris-Punggol.
Overall, around 2,000 cases have been reported through One Connect. Of this, 90 percent have been resolved.
