Winten Property Group’s AUD140 million (S$162.9 million) Belvedere apartment project that led North Sydney’s residential revival has celebrated a major milestone, with construction reaching the topping out stage.
The site of 138 Walker Street, North Sydney, has seen a flurry of activity since Sydney-based construction company Ganellen started work on the development in March 2012.
The milestone was marked with a tree-raising ceremony, a long-standing construction industry tradition dating back to a time when all buildings were made of timber. Considered a symbol of growth and prosperity, a tree is placed on the roof to signal to the city that the builders had reached the top.
Winten founder Garry Rothwell said the company is proud to bring the landmark project – the first and largest residential development approved in North Sydney in the last five years – to life.
He said: “Belvedere really paved the way for North Sydney’s residential revitalisation. Its approval was followed by half a dozen other high-rise residential projects. The area already offers so much thanks to its great location and good infrastructure, and now there’s also a wide range of apartment options, something that has been lacking in previous years. Seeing Belvedere come out of the ground really cements the exciting change that the area is currently experiencing.”
Ganellen Commercial Project Director Christopher Ahern added that more than 300 construction personnel have been involved in the construction of the 22-storey building, which will include 195 apartments, a resort-style pool and gym located on the building’s rooftop and taking in stunning district and harbour vistas.
Rothwell said owner-occupiers and investors had both shown great interest in Belvedere, and only eight three-bedroom harbour view apartments remain for sale – starting from AUD1.71 million (S$1.99 million) for a 112 sq m apartment.
Belvedere’s first residents are expected to move in by Christmas this year.
