Fire at condo site forces 150 to evacuate

22 Aug 2013

A fire broke out yesterday at a construction site along Meyer Road, where a 31-storey condominium project is being built, media reports said.

David Lau, safety coordinator for the work site, said workers were seen running from the area at around 3pm when black smoke started coming out from the cabin of a 30-storey crane.

Subsequently, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) arrived on the scene, but by then the fire had already burnt itself out. According to a spokesperson for contractor Hup Soon Construction, the fire was like caused by a short circuit.

Around 150 workers were evacuated from the site and no one was injured. The condo is set to be completed in Q3 next year.
