Home-grown developer CDL celebrated its 50th anniversary on Friday evening with a gala dinner at W Singapore – Sentosa Cove, which was attended by over 400 local and international dignitaries including Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean.
The event showcased CDL’s transformation over the last five decades, from a loss-making company into a bellwether stock on the Singapore Exchange.
It now stands as a major global property player, having built over 30,000 homes and owning more than 7.8 million sq ft of lettable space.
In his message, CDL’s Executive Chairman Kwek Leng Beng said the developer has stood firm on its tagline “Made in Singapore”.
“It was the company’s desire to enhance Singapore’s reputation as a vital business hub, a stylish capital of Asian management, innovation, hospitality, architecture and commerce,” he noted.
Mr Kwek also acknowledged the government’s role in providing political stability and establishing pro-business policies which has created a dynamic business environment and allowed CDL to succeed.
These measures will ensure the country remains an attractive and competitive place to conduct business, and create a more socially-inclusive Singapore, he added.
Meanwhile, a commemorative book titled “A Lasting Impression”, which tells the CDL story, was presented to DPM Teo by Mr Kwek and CDL Managing Director Kwek Leng Joo.
