Singapore’s Council for Estate Agencies (CEA) has confirmed that it did not conduct checks on a salesperson as suggested in a recent email received by PropertyGuru. CEA also confirmed it had earlier received such similar feedback.
In the email, a real estate agent who was marketing a HDB property claimed officers from CEA had made contact and arranged a meeting.
The agent wrote that two people attended an arranged meeting and asked specific questions relating to the procedures required for HDB properties in the case of a divorce. The agent, who specialises in the HDB market, answered their questions.
In the email, the agent said: “The two of them then showed me a pass; they were officers from CEA. They told me that what I presented to them was correct, and that there was no misleading or over-presenting.”
The email is understood to have been forwarded to a number of Singapore real estate agents and agencies.
A spokesperson for CEA advised estate agents and salespersons to obtain the identification particulars of anyone who claims to be from CEA and to ask to check his/her CEA Inspector Card.
If in doubt, they should contact CEA for verification.
