MDIS yesterday broke ground for its largest overseas campus, the S$116.25 million MDIS Malaysia Campus in EduCity@Iskandar.
Five times bigger than the Singapore campus, the one in Johor will offer state-of-the-art facilities, as well as disability-friendly and green features.
The private school will enrol 2,000 students when its first phase opens in two years. When fully completed in 2023, the campus will be able to accommodate 10,000 students.
“EduCity@Iskandar is an important component of Malaysia’s aim to be the sixth largest education exporting country by 2020 with 200,000 international students studying here. This offers great potential for us and we are delighted to play a part in the pursuit of Malaysia’s educational goal,” said MDIS Secretary-General, Dr R Theyvendran.
“Indeed, MDIS Malaysia is a prime example of how intra-regional investments can be encouraged, and how both countries – Singapore and Malaysia – can develop competitive strengths jointly,” he added.
The ceremony was officiated by Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister, Muhyiddin Yassin.
