$1 price tag for Eminem's childhood home

26 Sep 2013

Fancy buying a celebrity’s former house (pictured) for US$1?

Believe it or not, that’s the asking price for the property where rapper Eminem once lived in as a teenager.

Located in the northeastern section of the US city of Detroit in a neighbourhood that has fallen on hard times, prospective buyers or fans of Eminem could look to purchase it via an online application with the Michigan Land Bank (MLB).

Before you rush in, online news blog Curbed Detroit warns: “Because they’re the saddest properties imaginable, MLB listings are open to bids of any dollar amount.”

The house does seem to have a special place in the rapper’s heart as it was featured prominently on the cover of his 2000 album Marshall Mathers LP, which has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.
