Despite a decline in property transactions, there has been no substantial drop in the number of licensed real estate salespersons in Singapore.
As of January 1 2014, and according to data published by the Council for Real Estate Agencies (CEA), the city-state was home to 1,425 licensed real estate agents and 31,783 licensed salespersons.
CEA noted that there were 3,336 newcomers to the industry, compared to 4,567 in 2012. This equates to a decline of about 27 percent.
Last year, CEA issued licences to 1,492 estate agents and registered 31,040 salespersons. However, 88 estate agents and 3,382 salespersons indicated that they did not want to continue with their estate agency work in 2014.
So despite industry speculation that a substantial number of agents would leave the real estate sector in 2013, this doesn’t appear to have happened with the number of registered agents remaining fairly consistently around the 31,000 figure for the last three years since the CEA was founded.
