The government will spend more money on upgrading programmes to further improve the lives of HDB residents.

Speaking in Parliament on Wednesday, National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan said the cost cap for the Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP) will be raised to $4,700 per flat from the previous amount of $3,400. This is to pay for additional works.

As for the Selective Lift Replacement Programme (SLRP), Mr Khaw shared that the government will fund half of the lift replacement cost, up to $125,000 per lift.

He added that the housing board will complete the selection of eligible flats for the Home Improvement Programme (HIP) by 2018. Meanwhile, the town councils will take the lead in implementing the NRP and SLRP.

Mr Khaw was responding to a query from MP Zaqy Mohamad on the three new enhancements to HDB’s upgrading programmes.

The Minister had announced these enhancements at the HDB Awards Dinner on 10 September.
