Getting away from busy London life

31 Oct 2014

With people leading increasingly frantic lives, the number of buyers of British property looking for a slice of village life, away from the hustle and bustle of the city, is on the rise.

Even though many thrive from being immersed in the heart of the action during the day, they want to be able to head home to a place where the pace of life is slightly slower but without a two-hour commute. For many, the ‘London Village’ is just the answer, and should be something the property investors from Southeast Asia should take into account when looking for rental properties.

Well-established villages like Primrose Hill, Hampstead Village and Wimbledon Village have provided a model of living that is now being emulated throughout London. Typically these places have plenty of green space, independent shops and boutiques, weekend farmers markets and a thriving high street.

They are also typically close to an abundance of good schools. Wimbledon Village is home to Kings College and Wimbledon High School, Highgate School is located in the heart of Highgate Village and Hampstead has a variety of top independent schools including St Margaret’s, University College School and South Hampstead High School. Unsurprisingly, these ‘villages’ typically command a high premium when it comes to property, thanks to all of the amenities on the doorstep as well as being just a few miles from the centre of London.

One example is Sophia House (pictured) in Wimbledon, the latest property offering from award-winning developer Newcourt Residential. Alongside its sister property next door, it is the only new-build house in Wimbledon of its size and calibre to come to the market in decades.

Anouar Elkhadraoui of Newcourt Residential, said: “Our properties have seen great interest from the international market in particular our Ellerton Road development, which has drawn interest from Europe, Russia as well as Southeast Asia.

“Wimbledon provides a quintessential British village and is just 18 minutes from the centre of London, one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world and a global financial hub, making it ideal for young professionals and those from overseas.

This six-bedroom property backs onto the Royal Wimbledon Golf Course and comes complete with an indoor swimming pool, sauna, steam room, media room, wine tasting room and vast entertaining space.

Sophie House is available with a guide price of £6.95 million through Newcourt Residential.
