The Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Academy will expand its campus, and the new extension will be operational by Q2 2015.
The project cost will cost $62.2 million, and when completed, the BCA Academy will have unique features to facilitate experiential learning to enrich skills, expertise and knowledge.
Next year, a Rotatable Laboratory will be constructed on the roof of the new extension, making it the first to be built in Asia. The lab will allow industry professionals and researchers to test building materials, components and systems and monitor their effectiveness under Singapore’s local climatic conditions.
BCA CEO John Keung said, “The new extension is the BCA’s plan to nurture our industry talents of tomorrow and inspire our industry professionals of today. It represents a microcosm of the future of the built environment that the BCA envisages for Singapore – safe, high quality, sustainable and friendly.”
The new extension has also received the BCA Green Mark Platinum certification, and boasts many green building features that contribute to 35 percent energy savings; one of the highest in Singapore.
In his speech at the BCA Academy Graduation Ceremony 2014 on 14 November, Senior Minister of State Lee Yi Shyan said the construction industry is expected to maintain its share of the GDP and create demand for trained professionals in the built environment sector.
Located in Braddell, the BCA Academy of the Built Environment is the education and research arm of BCA, and it provides training and research programmes to advance the building industry and develop an excellent built environment.
