Smaller flats get higher conservancy grants: MND

Muneerah 21 Nov 2014

The government allocates the Service and Conservancy Charge (S&CC) grants to town councils based on the number of HDB flat units and flat types, Ministry of National Development (MND) said in media reports.

The formula to calculate the grants has been in place since 1999, and is applied consistently to all town councils, it added.

One-room flats are given the highest grant of $33.70 per month, while two and three-room flats receive $26.20 and $17 per month respectively. Meanwhile, the grant for four-room households is $9 per month.

The government grant enable town councils to subsidise the S&CC for residents living in four-room flats and smaller.

The MND’s statement came following issues raised about the high arrears rate at the Aljunied-Hougang-Punggol East Town Council (AHPETC).
