A consortium of Chinese rail companies has eyes on the upcoming high-speed rail (HSR) project which will connect Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, according to media reports.

It consists of CSR Qingdao Sifang, China Railway Construction Corp (CRCC), as well as the Third Railway Survey and Design Institute Group Corp (TSDI).

CRCC Chairman Meng Fengchao revealed the consortium members represent China’s leading HSR players with proven track record of constructing railways which can handle speeds of up to 350 kph.

“We have built up the world’s leading technology in HSR and look forward to submit our bid for the project including the pre-qualification process and meeting all the stated requirements,” he said.

For instance, CRCC is China’s biggest engineering contractor, TSDI is an industry leader in survey and design of railways and mass transit system for cities, while CSR is an expert in building railway locomotive and rolling stock products, such as high-quality passenger coaches and high-speed electricity multiple units (EMUs).

“We adopt first-class technology, manufacture high-quality products and train our employees to provide users with the most valuable green products and social responsibility,” noted Ni Shengyi, Deputy President of CSR Qingdao Sifang Co.

Furthermore, CRCC has built over 60 percent of China’s HSR projects and designed more than 70 percent of such infrastructure.

Touted as the first HSR link in Southeast Asia and the most ambitious infrastructure project in the region, the highly-anticipated project is expected to speed up the travel time between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur from six hours to merely 90 minutes.
