Budget: 800,000 HDB households to get rebates

21 Feb 2014

The government will provide a one-off GST Voucher-U-Save Special Payment this year.

This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam in his Budget 2014 statement.

The move is expected to help lower- and middle-income households deal with cost of living pressures.

Larger rebates will be given out to those living in smaller flats. With these additional rebates, Mr Tharman noted that eligible households will be able to free up cash for other expenses.

Around 800,000 flat dwellers are expected to benefit from the rebates.

At the same time, one to three months of Service & Conservancy Charges (S&CC) rebates will also be provided. One- and two-room HDB households will receive a total of three months of rebates for this year, while three- and four-room households will receive two months of rebates.
