In order to prevent flooding in Orchard Road, PUB will start the construction of Stamford Diversion Canal’s first phase in Q3 2014. Costing $50.6 million, it will pass through Tanglin and Kim Seng, according to media reports.
The project’s second phase will run through Grange Road to River Valley Road.
Measuring two kilometres long, the diversion canal is expected to be completed in 2017.
"We will also continue to work with the developers and building owners on implementing ‘source measures’ to slow down the flow of stormwater into the public drainage system and ‘receptor measures’ to protect the buildings against floods," said Tan Nguan Sen, PUB’s Director of Catchment & Waterways.
Orchard Road was affected by several flash floods from 2010 to 2012.
