Koh Brothers was awarded a $126.5 million construction contract for the new Executive Condominium (EC) in Jurong West by KBD Westwood, a Koh Brothers’ Joint Venture Company.
The development will have Prefabricated Bathroom Units, and other prefab and precast components.
To improve the level of productivity in the construction sector, developers will be required to use Prefabricated Bathroom Units for all residential Government Land Sales (GLS) in the second half of 2014.
The government also set a minimum percentage of prefab level for industrial GLS sites.
The company acknowledged these new requirements pose some challenges, such as transporting large prefab units to worksites and the availability of precast supply.
“However, the use of productive technologies will lead to cost savings and in addition to that, more balcony Gross Floor Area (GFA) for developers,” said Francis Koh, Managing Director and Group CEO of Koh Brothers.
“Through the integration of our in-house capabilities in our core Construction & Building Materials and Real Estate businesses, we will be able to effectively harness synergies, thereby containing construction costs, increase our productivity quotient and achieve better margins overall,” he added.
The EC in Jurong West is expected to be completed in June 2017, and will feature nine blocks comprising 480 apartments, ranging from two- to five-bedrooms units.
