Singapore will soon have a new MRT station on the existing North-South Line.
The Canberra station will in between the Yishun and Sembawang stations.
Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew announced this today at the Groundbreaking Ceremony of the Thomson Line.
He said the Land Transport Authority (LTA)’s feasibility study on building the additional station has been completed and more details will be released in future.
The upcoming Canberra station will assume the station code NS12, which is currently omitted on the red line.
Although the exact location of the station has not been revealed, the map shows train tracks in between Yishun and Sembawang MRT stations run parallel to Canberra Link and Yishun Avenue 2.

Canberra Link is currently largely surrounded by forested areas. However, a few new HDB estates are expected to be completed around the vicinity in 2016 and 2017, and new neighbourhood centre will be built for residents at Canberra Link, according to the Master Plan 2014.
Under the H2 2014 Government Land Sales (GLS) Programme’s Confirmed List, one of the residential sites for an Executive Condominium (EC) is bounded by Canberra Link and Sembawang Road.
Upcoming private homes such as Canberra Residences and The Nautical are also within the vicinity.
Additionally, Yishun Industrial Park is located nearby and could possibly benefit from the upcoming Canberra MRT station
The North-South Line is also currently missing a NS6 station in between the Yew Tee and Kranji stations, however there has been no concrete news on building it.
