McNair Towers

The Housing and Development Board (HDB) has terminated the services of the contractor for the McNair Towers Build-To-Order (BTO) project, after the company ran into financial issues, reported Channel NewsAsia.

Responding to media queries, HDB revealed that construction works for the 861-unit project at McNair Road were halted in October, after Sembawang Engineers and Constructors faced issues in the work process.

The board tried to help resolve the issues, but the progress was found to be “unsatisfactory”.

But while HDB is still seeking a replacement for Sembawang Engineers and Constructors, it underscored that the project is expected to be completed on time – in Q4 2016.

Launched for sale in May 2012, McNair Towers comprises four blocks of residential units.

The tender for the project was awarded to Sembawang Engineers and Constructors in November 2012, said HDB, adding that McNair Towers is the only public housing project the company is in charge of.

In the last three years, HDB has terminated the services of several contractors after the companies went bankrupt. However, the termination has not delayed the construction progress for the projects, it noted.
