8 crafty Christmas hacks

Nikki Diane De Guzman11 Dec 2015

It’s Christmas once again, and for the more artistically inclined among us, ’tis the season to get crafty. Here are eight tips from IKEA to give your home a personalized Yuletide feel and wow your guests.

At the dinner table

1.   Recycle an old paper bag to make hand-torn place cards. Stick a name label on each one, or just write your guests’ names. Finish off with a sprig of herbs tied in a loop with string.

2.   Create a candle holder by cutting a shallow hole into an apple to fit a tealight. Make sure it’s steady by cutting a flat base. You can also drip some wax on the apple for a decorative effect.

3.   Change your perception of battery-operated candles with this industrial-style chandelier.  Create two rings, one slightly larger than the other, with metal bands. Hang the STÖPEN LED candles upside-down with twine and fasten the chandelier to a bracket.

4.   Cut a winter landscape out of white paper (it can be as minimal or intricate as you like), wrap it around a cylindrical jar or vase, and fasten with tape. Fill with water, add a floating candle, and there you have it — the easiest lighting decoration ever.

For the tree

5.   Add a nostalgic touch to your tree with the faces of your loved ones by cutting photos and placing them in spoons-turned-ornaments. Or replace the traditional top star for a gold-framed photo of the family.

6.   Even if you don’t feel like putting up a tree, you can still have some Christmas cheer around the house. Create a Christmas scene on a shelf by using an AGGPLANTA planter to set the stage. Paper trees and a bit of moss create a little winter landscape just right for any room in your home.

By the window

7.   Create an enviable window display without expending tons of money and energy. Spray-paint Christmas-themed cookie cutters and hang them from a simple branch. It’s easy, and oh-so-sweet.

8.   Create a simple yet lovely winter landscape in the windowsill with minimalist decorations. Paper trees, translucent VINDRUVA greenhouses, and even stick-on floor protectors work.
