Crane crashes into front porch of semi-detached house

A large crane from the construction site of the upcoming Sant Ritz condominium in Potong Pasir toppled over on 24 February and landed in the front porch of a semi-detached house across the road (pictured), reported the media.

Construction workers said the crane went down at around 4:30pm and that it was unmanned when the incident happened.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said no injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Manpower has instructed Santarli Construction, the company in charge of Sant Ritz, to stop work at the construction site.

“SCDF informed the Ministry of Manpower on 24 February about an accident that took place at Santarli Construction’s workplace along Pheng Geck Avenue on the same day,” revealed an MOM spokesperson.

“Officers from MOM’s Occupational Safety and Health Division commenced investigations immediately.”

Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin visited the site on Tuesday night. In a Facebook post, he said it was “fortunate no injuries occurred”, adding that contractors will dismantle the crane and will need a heavier one in order to lift the collapsed crane.

No one has been living in the semi-detached house for a while, but the owners reportedly visited the property recently.

Expected to be completed in 2016, Sant Ritz is a 99-year leasehold condominium comprising 214 units located near Potong Pasir MRT station and Sennett Estate.
