The Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA) will carry out a feasibility study with Ronser Bio-Tech Bhd, a comprehensive wastewater treatment solutions provider, on possible waste management projects in Iskandar Malaysia.
According to its Chief Executive Datuk Ismail Ibrahim, possible projects include turning wastage from wet markets and food outlets to value-added products as well as treating river catchment areas, which sometimes become rubbish dumping areas.
“The study will improve current practices so that it can become our guideline in regards to green practices and we hope to be able to finish the feasibility study in six to 12 months,” he told reporters after the signing ceremony between IRDA and Ronser Bio-Tech at Thistle Hotel recently.
Ismail said apart from developing Iskandar Malaysia to its fullest potential, there is also a need for them to tackle the environmental issues that come along with development.
“What’s more important is that, if this (waste management practice) becomes successful, it can be adopted for the whole Iskandar Malaysia and become a model for the whole country,” Ismail added.
Earlier in his speech he said while making Iskandar Malaysia greener, the waste management industry could potentially benefit the economy as it could generate income.
The authority’s recently completed Green Economy Guidelines could help guide companies, industries and others in going green in their production, services, transportation and in managing facilities.
“We want you to increase your investments in environmental assets, green technology, innovation and waste management,” Ismail said.
Ronser Bio-Tech, a BioNexus status company, provides comprehensive waste-water treatment services in various industries including agriculture; cleaning and remediation of rivers and lakes; as well as turning food wastes to green energy.
